Color Story
Ken Downing, Neiman Marcus fashion director, paid a visit to the Scottsdale Fashion Square store in mid-October, describing spring trends at an invitation-only runway show.
A little shimmer: Michael Kors gown, Nancy Gonzales clutch, Alexis Bittar earring
Think saturated color for spring, Downing says. Hot pink is hot – and haute – and yellow is spring’s best neutral. Blues, from royal to navy, will also be strong.
Lady Chic: Victoria Beckham dress, Jil Sander coat, Vince fur,
Prada handbag, Lanvin pump
Patterns will come into play as well. From flowers, dots and stripes to racing cars, prints are in and have a story to tell. While animal prints continue to make a statement, zebra, Downing says, is the one to watch.
The fur: Elizabeth&James stripe fur jacket, Tahari sleeveless cowl, Dries Van Noten ivory/black skirt, Fendi handbag,
Lanvin t-strap pump, Herve Van Der Straeten gold earring
Colorblocking is popular as well, with black and white graphic patterns and other combinations carrying the story.
Colorblocking: Michael Kors cashmere jacket and pant, Neiman Marcus cashmere twin set, Fendi handbag, Oscar de la Renta earrings, Yossi Harari necklace
And when you accessorize, go for big. Gold is always in, says Downing, and silver is strong for spring. Silver shoes are a must, preferably in high, strong heels.
