In Maricopa County, where housing insecurity affects vulnerable populations, one organization is working to ensure that pregnant women experiencing homelessness are met with safety, compassion, and resources to build stable futures.
Maggie’s Place, a Phoenix-based nonprofit, has received a $500,000 grant from The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation to help expand and sustain its programs over the next three years. The grant will support general operating expenses and continued development of the organization’s services. These funds play a critical role in allowing Maggie’s Place to provide safe housing, care, and community for expectant mothers navigating the challenges of homelessness.
“At a time when fear and uncertainty can overwhelm, Maggie’s Place offers hope, safety, and unwavering support,” Co-Founder Renee Parsons said. “Their commitment to caring for pregnant women and their babies ensures that no mother has to face her journey alone, and that every child has the chance to begin life surrounded by love.”
Maggie’s Place operates multiple residential maternity homes throughout Phoenix, offering women the opportunity to live in a stable environment with their babies until their child reaches one year of age. During their stay, mothers receive individualized guidance from stability specialists and AmeriCorps members who help them work toward personal goals such as securing employment, continuing education, and reconnecting with older children. The organization’s mission centers on welcoming women into a safe and loving community while providing life-changing programs designed to help them achieve long-term self-sufficiency.

“We are deeply grateful for this investment in our mission,” said Laura Magruder, CEO of Maggie’s Place. “General operating support allows us to sustain and strengthen the heart of our programs from maternity home operations to family success services, ensuring that every mom and baby we serve has access to compassionate care, a supportive community, and the tools they need to build a brighter future.”
While safe housing is a cornerstone, the organization’s work extends far beyond shelter. Mothers and families receive access to therapy, addiction recovery support, parenting education, childcare assistance, workforce development, and ongoing family enrichment opportunities. Even after women transition out of the maternity homes, Maggie’s Place continues to provide resources including child development programs, employment assistance, social support, and family relationship-building services.
“Maggie’s Place does more than provide shelter,” Co-Founder Bob Parsons said. “They offer a safe home, hands-on help, and stability when it’s needed most. That kind of support gives both mother and child a stronger start.”
The impact of this comprehensive approach is evident. In 2025, Maggie’s Place supported 228 families, welcomed 38 newborns, and provided stable housing to 82 mothers. By addressing immediate needs and long-term stability, the organization continues to help families move forward with confidence. For more behind this Frontdoor, visit maggiesplace.org.
