2 Day Mask Making Workshop With Rachael Marshall

Description
Learn mask making from Zarco Guerrero’s four-year apprentice, Rachael Marshall. In this 2-day workshop (April 18th-19th) you’ll explore various techniques and gain practical experience in mask making. Taking place at the Mask Alive Art Collection Gallery, you will be able to work surrounded by hundreds of pieces made by Zarco Guerrero. Participants will walk away from this experience with a custom mask and the ability to join a group facilitated by Rachael to further your creative journey.
Participants will leave this 2-day workshop with their own completed ready to wear one-of-a-kind mask!
Workshop takes place April 18th & 19th from 6-8pm
About the Artist
Since childhood, Rachael describes herself as “always having my hands in any projects I could find.” Her passions and intuition drew her into various mediums of building, drawing, and designing wearable art. Rachael describes her work as reflections of her personal inspiration, as well as her drive to use her hands as creative tools. She met Zarco at an event where he was storytelling. Drawn to his presence, she worked up the courage to talk to him, and said “we should be friends.” After a few weeks as social media friends, Zarco invited her to his studio. Once she arrived, he suggested that to be friends, she would have to learn traditional mask making and perform in the masks she makes at his events. She agreed, even though she admitted she didn’t know his work as an artist or with Cultural Coalition. “After being his apprentice for two years, I had no idea he would teach me the type of art I have secretly been looking for in my heart. Knowing and learning from Zarco has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. I have him and his wife to thank. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be here now fulfilling a dream that I had no idea could come true.”
