ACCEL Unveils Kid-Designed Playground

ACCEL, in partnership with The CarMax Foundation and KABOOM!, recently debuted their new, kid-designed playground in Phoenix. The project was a collaborative effort between ACCEL and the community, kids included, who presented ideas to create their dream playground.

ACCEL is a nonprofit whose mission is to provide exceptional educational, behavioral, therapeutic and vocational programs to individuals with special needs and developmental disabilities.

“There are not many play spaces in Phoenix where all students, of any ability, can have fun and experience a play structure accessible to everyone. It’s exciting to see our team and students’ ideas come to life and get to experience what they could have only dreamed of before,” said Jessie Bustamante, chief advancement officer of ACCEL.

Since 2012, The CarMax Foundation and KABOOM! have built almost 200 play spaces throughout the country.

CarMax has been a member of the Phoenix community for more than 14 years and is committed to making a positive impact where we live and work,” said Jason Ancarrow, president of The CarMax Foundation. “Our associates are excited to get their hands dirty and help bring this playground, designed by and for the community, to life.”

Basketball legend and CarMax partner Diana Taurasi joined volunteers on the final build day. Taurasi expressed gratitude to those working to make Phoenix a better place for everyone.
