Investing $1 Million in Phoenix Children’s Nursing Future

Phoenix Children’s is embarking on a multi-year effort to advance nursing excellence across its health system, and a $1 million investment from PCH50 is helping get the journey underway. The community of philanthropic leaders is supporting Phoenix Children’s Journey to Magnet®, an initiative focused on strengthening nursing practice, professional development and patient outcomes as the health system pursues Magnet designation through the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program®.
The designation is considered the gold standard for nursing excellence and recognizes organizations that demonstrate strong leadership, professional practice and patient care while fostering environments that support clinical outcomes, workforce engagement and innovation.
“At Phoenix Children’s, our nurses are at the heart of every patient experience,” President and CEO John R. Nickens IV said. “Our Magnet journey reflects our long-term commitment to investing in our people and advancing the highest standards of pediatric care. We are grateful to PCH50 for their partnership and for this meaningful investment in our nurses as we work to build the future of health care for Arizona’s children.
Funding will support staffing resources, readiness assessments, nursing research, professional practice infrastructure and expert guidance. Together, those efforts are intended to strengthen areas including professional governance, evidence-based practice, nursing research, leadership and workforce development. The initiative builds on the work Phoenix Children’s nurses are already doing while creating additional opportunities for career development and clinical excellence.

Pursuing Magnet designation will strengthen our practice environment, expand opportunities for professional growth and ultimately improve the experience and outcomes of the patients and families we serve,” said Dianne Bennett, DNP, EMBA-HA, APN, CENP, interim chief nursing executive and senior vice president of patient care services.
For a pediatric health system, investing in nurses can have an impact well beyond individual professional development. Phoenix Children’s says the Journey to Magnet is designed to support stronger care delivery, workforce engagement and patient outcomes across the organization. PCH50 brings together philanthropic leaders who support Phoenix Children’s through fundraising, advocacy and strategic investments in initiatives focused on improving children’s health.
