A series of surprise donations is giving Arizona nonprofits plenty to celebrate this year, with nearly half a million dollars in charitable support being distributed to organizations across the state.
The giving campaign, launched in honor of Earnhardt Auto Centers’ 75th anniversary, has already provided more than $155,000 in confirmed donations to nonprofits supporting children and families, first responders, animals, cancer patients and Arizonans experiencing food insecurity. More than $200,000 in additional donations are expected to be announced in the coming months, on top of nearly $90,000 already given to other charitable organizations.
Rather than announcing the gifts ahead of time, the organizations have been finding out about the donations shortly before receiving them, creating a series of unexpected moments for nonprofits doing critical work throughout Arizona.
Among the largest gifts so far is a $75,000 donation to Ava’s Treehouse, a respite and resource center operated by the Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children. The organization provides support for children battling cancer and their families, addressing the social, emotional and financial challenges that come with a childhood cancer diagnosis.
“We are truly so grateful and excited for Ava’s Treehouse to be part of this celebration,” said Andrea Smith of ACFC. “The family’s gift is sure to support key programs here and touch the lives of many Arizona families who are struggling to support their child with a cancer diagnosis.”
Food insecurity is another focus of the campaign. A $22,500 donation to St. Mary’s Food Bank provides the equivalent of 75,000 meals and 75,000 bottles of water. Child Crisis Arizona also received $25,075 to support emergency shelter, foster care, adoption and family services for vulnerable children and youth. The organization has a longstanding relationship with Earnhardt Auto Centers and previously honored the company with its Spirit of Philanthropy Award and Legacy of Love Award.
“We could not be more grateful for our longtime partnership with Earnhardt Auto Centers,” said Torrie Taj, CEO of Child Crisis Arizona. “The Earnhardt family has been so generous in support of Arizona’s most vulnerable children, youth and families for so long, and we are excited to celebrate their 75-year milestone together.”
Other recent recipients include Make-A-Wish Arizona, which received $12,575 to help grant wishes for children facing critical illnesses; the Arizona Humane Society, which received $10,000 to help care for sick, injured and abused pets; and the 100 Club of Arizona, which received $10,000 to support first responders and their families during times of crisis.
The 100 Club’s donation continues a relationship that has generated more than $50,000 for the organization over the years, supporting its work on behalf of Arizona’s first responders. Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley has also been among the organizations receiving support during the anniversary campaign, adding youth services to a list of causes spanning communities and needs across the state.
With additional gifts still to come, the campaign is poised to reach nearly $500,000 in charitable giving. For the recipients, and the Arizona children, families, first responders, animals and communities they serve, the unexpected support offers an opportunity to continue making an impact where it is needed most.
