Mentoring Matters: Big Brothers Big Sisters Central Arizona

“Let’s be that person for the kids in our community.”
A 30-year study conducted by leading researchers from Harvard University and the U.S. Department of Treasury released this year reveals the significant impact mentoring has on youth in the community.
Debbie Castillo-Smith, Interim CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters Central Arizona, says one statistic that stands out is that 20 percent of their “littles” are more likely to attend college. The youth in these programs are seeing what is possible and that “there is something greater out there.” Castillo-Smith sits down with Host Carey Pena to discuss the urgent need for mentors and how the community can contribute.
