‘Queen of Hearts’ Free Concert by the Women’s Orchestra of Arizona in Scottsdale

April 26 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free
  • « Since You Asked XXII Annual Community Reception and Book Signing
  • Convergence Ballet Company Presents THE SPACE BEFORE »

Prepare to be swept away by the WOA Season Finale, an afternoon where the stage becomes a throne for musical brilliance. “Queen of Hearts”: A Royal Succession of Symphonic Voice, will celebrate the commanding presence of female music and the dramatic shifts of power that define the symphonic tradition.
The Program: A Royal Lineage

This concert’s repertoire weaves together three distinct eras of musical authority:

The Playful Sovereign: Otto Nicolai’s Overture to The Merry Wives of Windsor The concert begins with a nod to the cunning and charm of Shakespeare’s leading ladies. This overture captures the “Queen of Hearts” at her most mischievous—reminding us that true power often lies in wit and a well-played hand.

The Modern Heir: Heather Pryse’s Crepuscular Thread As the winner of our 2026 Composition Competition, Pryse represents the new guard of symphonic royalty. Crepuscular Thread is a tapestry of light and shadow, proving that the succession of great musical voices is as vibrant and vital today as ever.

The Uncrowned Queen: Louise Farrenc’s Symphony No. 3 The crown jewel of the concert is Farrenc’s masterpiece. A contemporary of Beethoven and Mendelssohn, Farrenc fought for equal pay and recognition in a male-dominated conservatory. Her Third Symphony is a tour de force of structural elegance and emotional depth—a rightful claim to the symphonic throne that history is finally honoring.

Why You Can’t Miss It

From the operatic humor of the 19th century to the cutting-edge textures of today, this concert is more than a finale; it is a coronation of sound. Join WOA as we crown the season with a legacy of voices that refuse to be silenced.

The concert is approximately one hour long, with no intermission.

Whether you come in jeans or pearls, you’re always welcome at our concerts!
