May 1 @ 9:15 am - 11:15 am
$10 – $30
  • « SARRC’s 28th Annual Community Breakfast: Hope Happens Here

Spring is heating up with events and happenings at Cosanti Originals. On Friday, May 17, Cosanti is set to host its next Casting Cosanti silt-cast plaster workshop. In addition, guided tours and Specialty Architecture Tours abound throughout the month. Details are as follows:

Casting Cosanti Workshop

Friday, May 15 |10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

This unique hands-on opportunity melds artistic expression informed by the desert with an exploration of Cosanti’s innovative and experimental historic site. Instructor Dakota Petersen will guide workshop participants through the process of carving and shaping a mold made from desert earth to create their own cast plaster tile using the same techniques that shaped the construction of Cosanti itself. The schedule is as follows:

10-10:15 a.m. — Sign-in and orientation
10:15-11 a.m. — Guided tour of Cosanti
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — Silt designing, pigmenting and casting
12:30 p.m.-1 p.m. — Short break, guests are welcome to bring a boxed lunch
1-1:30 p.m. — Excavation, photos and conclusion
The workshop is $125 per person, plus taxes and fees, and is limited to 15 participants. To learn more about the Casting Cosanti Workshop, visit https://cosanti.com/pages/hands-on-experiences.

Guided tours of Cosanti will be offered Monday through Saturday, at 9:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., through Memorial Day. After Monday, May 25, the 9:15 a.m. tour time will continue through the summer. Guided tours offer guests a look into Paolo Soleri’s design studio, historic residential and workshop structures, and the artistic traditions carried on today in the creation of bronze and ceramic windbells, jewelry, and home accessories that exemplify the heritage of Cosanti Originals. Guided tours are $30 per person, $15 for students with valid school ID and $10 for teens and children 18 and under.

Specialty Architecture Tours are available on Sundays throughout May beginning at 11:15 a.m. These conversational tours are designed for those seeking a deeper exploration into the design and artistry of Cosanti. Guide Sophie Rabb provides guests the opportunity to see and ponder Cosanti’s historic structures in a new light. The Specialty Architecture Tours are $30 per person.
