Junior Achievement of Arizona put a competitive spin on philanthropy during its annual JA Stock Market Challenge in October, bringing together professionals from companies across the state for an evening of fast-paced trading, friendly competition and community impact. Held at JA BizTown in Tempe, the event welcomed 120 attendees and raised more than $165,000.

The unique fundraising event gives participants an opportunity to experience the excitement and unpredictability of the stock market while supporting educational opportunities for Arizona students. During the challenge, teams are given $500,000 in virtual funds to invest in 30 fictitious companies.

Once the opening bell rings, the market opens, and every 60 to 90 seconds represents a new trading day. As stock prices fluctuate, teams must make quick decisions, monitor their investments and strategize to build the largest portfolio before trading concludes.

The fast-moving competition puts decision-making skills to the test, with opportunities for teams to receive better positions on the trading floor, gain insights into company performances and follow their standings throughout the game, depending on their level of involvement. The event’s larger purpose is to invest in the next generation of Arizona’s workforce.

Proceeds from the JA Stock Market Challenge help Junior Achievement of Arizona provide financial literacy, entrepreneurship and career readiness education to approximately 130,000 students each year. Through hands-on learning experiences, students gain practical knowledge to help them make informed financial decisions, explore career opportunities and prepare for their futures.

Founded in 1957, Junior Achievement of Arizona is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preparing students for success in work and in life. Its programs serve students in kindergarten through 12th grade, providing lessons and experiences that help them manage money, plan for the future and make thoughtful academic, career and economic choices.

The organization’s reach extends throughout Arizona, including rural, suburban, urban and tribal communities. During the 2025-2026 school year, JA reached more than 130,000 students, primarily from low-income and diverse backgrounds. That impact is made possible in part by nearly 8,000 volunteers who deliver hands-on educational programs each year. By connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences, these volunteers help students better understand the financial and professional decisions they will face as adults.

The annual Stock Market Challenge offers another way for businesses and professionals to get involved, turning an evening of competition into an investment in students’ futures. For more behind this Frontdoor, visit jaaz.org.
