Paul R. Madden

Paul R. Madden, 85, of Prescott, passed away Sept. 22, 2012, in Prescott. He is survived by his loving and beloved wife of 38 years, Rosemary; four children, Bill Madden (Sarah), Jim Madden (Karen), Peggy Smith and Lisa Schoutsen (Jacobus); 11 grandchildren (Monica, Andrew, Caitlin, Brady, Danielle, Jake, Jordan, Lily, Elyse, Leith and Gidget); and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Derek Sorel, and his brother Francis.

He loved and was immensely proud of his family. By example, he passed on his qualities of caring, responsibility and integrity.

Paul was born in St. Paul, Minn. After graduation from Georgetown Law School, he practiced law in Washington, D.C., and then in Phoenix, primarily with Lewis & Roca, and with Gallagher & Kennedy, in both Phoenix and Prescott. He practiced law for almost 60 years with honor and decency.

Paul had a strong sense of civic obligation and served many organizations and causes, including, among many others, the Catholic Community Foundation, The Samaritan Foundation, The Foundation for Senior Living, and Junior Achievement.

He also served as chairman of the board of Mesa Air Group, Inc., a carrier for many major airlines throughout the United States.

After moving to Prescott, he was elected to the Yavapai College District Governing Board, and was a director of Friends of the Prescott Public Library, the Yavapai Symphony Association, Prescott People Who Care and the Yavapai College Foundation.

Paul was a gentle man, and a true gentleman. He was liked and admired by many, and will be loved by his family for all time, until we are together again.
