Midwestern U. to Open Vet School
In 2014, Midwestern University will open Arizona’s first veterinary school, a move administrators and farmers hope will resolve a shortage of animal doctors in rural parts of the state.
Midwestern will spend $90 million to build an academic center as well as clinics for large and small animals on its Glendale campus at 59th Avenue and Utopia Road. The nonprofit university, which opened its Glendale campus in 1995, focuses on health-care education. It plans to hire 60 to 70 veterinary faculty and staff members for its new venture.
