Kathleene S. Utzinger

Kathleene (Kathy) S. Utzinger, 77, passed away July 3, 2012, from Alzheimer's disease. Kathy was born in Phoenix on October 10, 1934, to Vivian and Harold Spotts.

 

Kathy exhibited an extraordinary commitment to her community, having been active as a member of the Phoenix Symphony Guild, member and board president of Florence Crittenton Services of Arizona, member and board president of the Scottsdale Girls Club then member and board member of Boys and Girls Clubs of Scottsdale after they merged, member and president of Desert Foundation Auxiliary, and charter member and president of Friends of the Arizona Cancer Center.

 

Her most extensive service was her involvement with the Scottsdale Boys and Girls Clubs Thrift Shop as a volunteer and manager for 30 years, earning her the Boys and Girls Clubs of America's National Medallion.

 

She was a second generation native Arizonan, having attended Kenilworth Elementary School and North High School. She graduated from Stanford University in 1956 and returned to Arizona, where she taught school for a short time before committing herself to family and community service.

 

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dr. David H. Utzinger, daughters Holly and Lisa, brother Jim Spotts, uncle Harold Heisser, aunt Margaret (Marge) Paddock and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
