John Clyde Entz III
John Clyde (Jack) Entz III, a former president of Entz-White Lumber and Supply Co., died Oct. 7, 2012, in Phoenix. He was 66. He was born in Mineral Wells, Texas, the son of John and Betty Entz, and was moved to Phoenix as an infant.
Growing up in north central Phoenix, Jack was active in athletics and school activities at Central High during the early 1960s. He later attended the University of Arizona, where he was active in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity, graduating with a B.S. degree in business administration.
Following graduation and while an active member of the U.S. Army reserves, he began his career in sales with IBM, which culminated in being a top salesman, including the Hundred Percent Club and the Golden Circle.
He then left IBM to begin working in the family business, where he grew the custom shutter business exponentially over the course of a few years, before assuming the presidency of the business. After his presidency, he transformed the hardware and shutter business to a 100,000 square-foot retail and design center.
While at Entz-White, he earned an Executive MBA at Harvard University and was also a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO).
He was an active runner who completed several marathons. He also loved tennis, hunting and fishing. He later moved into real estate sales and development, a career he pursued for the past 25 years.
He is survived by his son, John C. Entz IV of Manhattan Beach, a daughter, Lori Xeller of Phoenix, and his sister, Mary Grace Boice of Prescott. He's also survived by his daughter-in-law Kelly Entz, son-in-law, Christopher Xeller and four granddaughters, Collins, Ellen, Marley and Karys.
