ASU Benefactor W.P. Carey, 81, Dies

William Polk Carey, a pioneer in corporate finance who donated millions of dollars to Arizona State University’s business school and other educational institutions, died Monday (Jan. 2, 2012) of natural causes at a hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla.

 

The New York-based banker, founder and chairman of real-estate investment firm W.P. Carey & Co. LLC was 81.

 

In 2003, Carey donated $50 million from his philanthropic W.P. Carey Foundation to ASU. In recognition, ASU renamed the university’s business school in his honor.
