Shoes and the City
More than 75 Arizona Women’s Education & Employment (AWEE) donors and supporters, most members of the Individual Giving Society, were treated to an evening of shoes, shopping and appetizer-and-cocktail sharing at the fifth annual Shoes and the City at Saks Fifth Avenue on Sept. 22.
Saks donated 10 percent of all shoe-department sales for three days to AWEE and provided a number of raffle items to help boost the coffers.
“This is a fund- and friend-raising event that’s also a big shout out to our Individual Giving Society members, who are incredibly generous in their support of AWEE and all that we do in the community,” says Kathey Wagner, Shoes and the City co-chair with Julie Maurer. “Plus, what can be bad about spending the evening surrounded by incredible shoes and fashions?”
AWEE’s mission is “Changing lives through the dignity of work.” Its focus is workforce development, and since 1981, the organization has helped more than 200,000 Arizonans find jobs, keep their families together, become financially independent and contribute to the community.
