Craig Jackson Makes Major Buy for Charity as Barrett-Jackson Heads Into Saturday Night
The action was fast and furious on Friday night at Barrett-Jackson, continuing a strong 2019 event and raising millions of dollars for charities.
With the main action on Saturday night yet to come, one of the big splashes on Friday night came from CEO Craig Jackson himself, who purchased a 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 auctioned to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for $1.1 million.
The new Shelby, the first of the 2020 models made, will join other extraordinary Shelby cars in Craig and Carolyn Jackson’s collection including two famous prototypes – Green Hornet and Little Red. Although they’ve help raise more than $105 million for charity on the auction block, this is just the second charity car that the Jacksons have purchased for their own collection.
The purchase shouldn’t come as a surprise: Craig Jackson enjoyed a lifelong friendship with Carroll Shelby who he honored by naming his daughter Shelby.
Ford cars have raised more than $6.5 million for JDRF through sales at Barrett-Jackson.
Another big-ticket charity purchase was a Jeep sold by actor Gary Sinise raised $1.31 million to benefit The Gary Sinise Foundation, which helps veterans, first responders and their families.
Going into this year’s auction, Barrett-Jackson has auctioned off cars that have generated more than $105 million for local and national charities.
