‘Grand’ New Opera
Arizona Opera’s 2013-2014 season features a new format, more dates and performances, and a new venue.
The season, which opens in October 2013, comprises “HMS Pinafore,” “The Flying Dutchman,” “La Boheme,” “La Traviata” and “Don Pasquale.” The final production, “Don Pasquale,” will inaugurate the new Arizona Opera Center at Central Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix. The new home for Arizona Opera will open to the community in late spring 2013.
The first four Phoenix productions of the season are at Symphony Hall. Tucson performances are at the Tucson Music Hall.
“Arizona Opera is overjoyed to present a newly formatted season of ‘grand opera’ for our grand state,” says Scott Altman, general director. “After a period of immense change, Arizona Opera continues its progress with an enhanced presence. We celebrate being Arizona’s only professional opera company and look forward to serving more students, families, patrons and community partners in the coming season, and in our new home.”
