MusicNova Appoints New Concertmaster

MusicaNova Orchestra has named Brazilian violinist Christiano Rodrigues its new Concertmaster. Rodrigues made his debut on October 29 for the Mid-Century Masters: Twentieth Century English Composers concert.

“I love being around people who enjoy playing music — and I do mean it when I say ‘enjoy.’ At MusicaNova, I have found nothing but joyous individuals, of all ages and all sorts of backgrounds who brave virtually any kind of music — new or old, masterpieces or experimental,” Rodrigues said. “This is the reason why I have accepted to lead this ensemble. They inspire me on both a musical and human level and I very much look forward to our work this season.”

Rodrigues is a 30-year-old violinist whose talents were recognized at an early age when he won the Jovens Solistas Brasileiros (Young Soloists of Brazil). He made his concerto debut at age 18 with the Orquestra Sinfônica da Bahia and shortly after began performing across America and Europe.

“Christiano brings such infectious energy to everything he does and so its a delight to have him join MusicaNova as Concertmaster,” said music director Warren Cohen. “His exquisite technique is only matched by his warm, generous demeanor and we are so looking forward to performing with him,”

Rodrigues made his solo debut at ASU Gammage at the beginning of the year and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts in violin performance at Arizona State University. He is involved in the Harmony Project, Phoenix, which provides music instruction to underprivileged children for free.

MusicNova Orchestra is a professional symphony founded in 2003.
