Phoenix Fashion Week Returns

Phoenix Fashion Week hosts its annual series of more than 24 runway shows, Oct. 3-5, at Talking Stick Resort. The three-day event celebrates the conclusion of a three-month emerging designer bootcamp, led by executive director of Phoenix Fashion Week, Brian Hill, in which ten hand-selected designers from around the nation have been preparing to launch their collections for Phoenix Fashion Week and beyond.

“Every year, Phoenix Fashion Week continues to grow our brand reach, among local and national brands, we embrace global brands from Bolivia, Kuwait, Dubai, Philippines and more. Phoenix Fashion Week continues to be the launching pad for brands looking to succeed long term in the fashion industry,” says Hill.

This year’s schedule builds on the success of last year, with many former Phoenix Fashion Week participants returning as established designers. Such as Chicago based Christine Adar, ‘Lifestyle Designer of the Year’ Quinlan Wilhite of Qmulative, and ‘Couture Designer of the Year’ Loren Aragon of Aconav, who was commissioned by Walt Disney World for a one-of-a-kind dress installment and dressed his first Tony Awards red carpet this summer.

“Phoenix Fashion Week has been a catalyst in propelling Arizona fashion forward, while creating new experiences for guests. This year, we will host our 4th Annual ‘Community Showcase,’ presented by F.A.B.R.I.C. of Tempe, featuring 14 local designers and their best two looks,” says Hill.

Phoenix Fashion Week partner with Goodwill of Central Arizona to present the Little Black Dress Challenge. Open to the public, the challenge called on designers to try their hand at up-cycled fashion by utilizing their neighborhood Goodwill clothing and competing for the chance to have their design featured on the runway Fri., Oct. 4.  Phoenix Fashion Week’s natural evolution to offering more sustainability in fashion, led to the Mayor of the City of Phoenix Kate Gallego proclaiming Aug. 22 Sustainable Fashion Day.  This distinguished honor inspired the first ever PHXFW Green Carpet scheduled for Fri., Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. and roundtable discussion on sustainable fashion led by industry experts.

In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, on Thurs., Oct. 3 ‘Fashionably Pink’ will highlight a night of celebrity fundraising and awareness for local breast cancer charity ‘Don’t be A Chump! Check for a Lump.’ 20 breast cancer survivors and local celebrities including Dr. Brian GawleyDr. Raman Mahabir, Javier Soto of 3TV, Miss Arizona Teen USA, Miss Arizona USA and more will grace the runway in all pink garments for a show that is sure to be unique and heartwarming.

On Sat., Oct. 5, Phoenix Fashion Week will award both ‘Designer of the Year’ and ‘Model of the Year’ male and female. The two winning models will each receive full modeling contracts from The Agency Arizona to successfully launch their careers. The ‘Designer of the Year’ will receive a $10,000 prize package comprised of goods and services to ensure long-term brand success.
