Designer Robert Burg Wins Chateau on Central Design Challenge

Designer Robert Burg of Robert Burg Design won the Chateau on Design Challenge Arizona. The judges’ decision was announced at a grand reveal party Feb. 26 at Chateau on Central in downtown Phoenix.

In addition to Burg, the yearlong competition featured designers Charles Glover of Charles Glover Interiors and Beth McGehee of SB Design Studio. Each of the three designers was given a budget and assigned a chateau to design from the shell stage to a fully furnished residence complete with Crestron home automation. Judges that included Luis D. Ortiz from the hit show Million Dollar Listing New York, selected the winning design. In addition to Glover, Monica Monson of Monson Luxury Group at Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty; fashion, design and interior architect expert Oscar De las salas; and fashion and design consultant Kelly Persellin served on the judging panel.

“The Chateau on Central Design Challenge Arizona event started as a creative idea and became one of the Valley’s most talked about luxury interior design and real estate events, so we couldn’t be happier,” Monson says. “We are so proud and honored to have worked with all three designers.”

IMG_0108 cropBurg’s design for his five-story, 5,400 square-foot chateau was inspired by multi-story living in New York and France. The entry and a seating area are on the first floor and a media room on the lower level. The master suite with its 14-foot high ceilings fills the second floor, and two guest rooms with two full baths and the laundry room occupy the third floor. The fourth floor is home to the kitchen, breakfast area, dining room, and pool bathroom. On one fourth floor patio, Burg positioned a pool. On that level, there is an additional patio.

One parameter of the contest was that elevator had to remain in its original position. Burg upholstered the walls in cut-out velvet, added wainscoting, and installed a custom blue settee and white chandelier.

The result? “Sophisticated elegance in a livable space,” Burg says.

The Feb. 26 celebration benefited Stars of the Season, which raised funds for the Music Therapy program at Cardon Children’s Medical Center.

Chateau on Central is located at the corner of Palm Lane and Central Avenue.
