Baseball Hall-of-Famer Tony LaRussa Honorary Chair at ‘A Night at the CATSbah’
More than 350 guests attended the annual Evening to Paws gala at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia on March 11. In addition to the human guests, several adoptable pets were present, hoping to find their forever families. The Moroccan-style event “A Night at the CATSbah” raised funds for the Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA.
Tony LaRussa, baseball hall of famer and currently chief baseball officer for the Arizona Diamondbacks, served as the evening’s honorary chair. LaRussa has been involved in animal rescue since he helped save a stray cat that ran onto the baseball field during a televised Oakland A’s game in May 1990. PetSmart Charities was the presenting sponsor.
A 100-plus item silent auction featuring a Honda scooter and a special Indy car day at Phoenix International Raceway with a private tour helped boost the coffers. The raffle prize was a $4,000 ring. Following the silent auction, the evening included dinner and a live auction.
Funds raised from the event will support the cause of saving homeless pets from euthanasia.
