Banner Children’s Charity Golf Classic

More than 300 players on two courses at the Wildfire Golf Club at J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge participated in a day for children April 7. With the foothills as a backdrop, golfers enjoyed sportsmanship, networking and great food while playing to support Banner Children’s Hospital patients throughout Arizona.

Beginning with a VIP golf clinic hosted by LPGA Class A teaching pro and Legends Tour player Lori Atsedes, the Golf Classic featured unique extras – a concept store with merchandise and swag for the serious golf fan, a “shamble” format, Big Break-style challenge holes, and a private plane jetting to Las Vegas for the winners.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit Banner Children’s Hospital school programs at Cardon Children’s Medical Center (Mesa), Banner Thunderbird Medical Center (Glendale) and Diamond Children’s Medical Center (Tucson). Representing the hospital school program, 14-year-old Mia McPoland – a Cardon Children’s patient – played a big role throughout the day as the event’s junior hostess. Meanwhile, Mix 96.9 FM radio show host Mathew Blades served as host. The title sponsor was Arizona Medical Network.

Established in 2001, Banner Health Foundation secures and stewards charitable contributions to advance Banner Health’s nonprofit mission to make a difference in people’s lives through excellent patient care. Contributions are invested locally to support patient care programs and services operated by Banner’s many hospitals and health care facilities across Arizona.
