Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign Facing Shortfall

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign donations are down 30 percent in Phoenix compared to this time last year. In addition, the campaign is seeing substantial decreases throughout the Valley.

Red Kettle gifts are vital because they make up 60 percent of the Salvation Army’s fundraising efforts during the holiday season. These gifts determine which programs and services The Salvation Army will be able to provide throughout the course of the upcoming year. Donations stay in the community in which they are collected and help provide meals, clothing and shelter for families in need, Christmas toys for thousands of Valley children and many other critical services throughout the year.

“We are very concerned about the significant decrease in Red Kettle donations and how it will impact our ability to help those who are hurting this year,” says Major John Brackenbury, Valley of the Sun program coordinator. “Sixty percent of all our fundraising occurs in the months of November and December. We hope that our community will remember their neighbors in need so The Salvation Army can continue our mission of helping those less fortunate during the holiday season.”

The Salvation Army is encouraging the public to donate generously to the Red Kettles found at local retailers and in malls, or online at salvationarmyphoenix.org. Donations can also be mailed to 2707 E. Van Buren St., Phoenix, AZ 85008 or called in to 1 800 SAL ARMY.
