East Valley Women’s League to Receive Award
East Valley Women’s League will receive the Tempe Community Council’s Guiding Light Lifetime Achievement in Philanthropy Award at the 33rd Annual Don Carlos Humanitarian Award Ceremony on Sept. 28 at the SRP Pera Club.
The organization is being recognized for its many years of raising funds to support programs that benefit women and children in Tempe and the East Valley. Among its most well-known efforts is the Cinderella Affair, its annual free prom-dress giveaway.
During the last 15 years, through the Cinderella Affair, more than 10,000 high school juniors and seniors from around the state received free prom dresses. The annual volunteer-and-donation driven event also provides free shoes, purses and accessories in an effort to offset the cost of an important and often once-in-a-lifetime high school event.
East Valley Women’s League, consisting of nearly 100 members, also supports Chemo Companions, Children’s Cancer Network (It’s All About You), Homebound Women’s Project, Packing for Success, SEEDS for Autism, Supporting Teens in Parenting and Kids in Transition, among others.
The organization has awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships to deserving students attending universities and community colleges in Arizona.
