Devereux Receives 2 Grants to Expand Center, Provide Uniforms

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Arizona has received grants from two foundations, the Kemper & Ethel Marley Foundation and Nationwide Foundation.

The Kemper & Ethel Marley Foundation has granted $125,000 to Devereux Arizona to remodel and rebuild a new dorm. The residential treatment center is a 24-hour Level 1, secure facility, located on a 10-acre campus. Youth between the ages of 5 and 17 experiencing emotional, mental, behavioral and/or substance abuse challenges live and attend school at the residential treatment center while they receive therapeutic treatment. Currently, the RTC campus is a 48-bed facility. The grant will allow Devereux Arizona to expand capacity to accommodate up to 56 youth. The Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation has been supporting Devereux for several years.

Nationwide Foundation recently granted Devereux $10,000 to provide the children living in the treatment center with school and athletic uniforms, including shoes. The uniforms help by prohibiting gang colors on campus, and promoting unity and pride so Devereux is better able to teach residents respect for each other, says Lane Barker, executive director.

Devereux began offering services in 1967 in Scottsdale and today offers services throughout Maricopa and Pima Counties.
