ADL Arizona Names Community Activist New Regional Director
Carlos Galindo-Elvira, most recently the chief development officer at Valle del Sol, has been announced as director of the Anti-Defamation League’s Arizona Office.
Prior to joining Valle del Sol, Galindo-Elvira was a special assistant to former U.S. Senator Dennis DeConcini in the areas of civil and human rights, Department of Justice, and Hispanic and Native American affairs. He also worked for the Pinal County Recorder’s Office as the voter outreach program coordinator.
Galindo-Elvira served as mayor for the town of Hayden for the term ending in June 2005 and has served as a council member since 1987. During his first term, he sponsored and wrote legislation ranging from a policy on anti-discrimination to a paid Martin Luther King holiday.
He is a graduate of Valle del Sol’s Hispanic Leadership Institute, Class of 2000, and the ADL’s Glass Leadership Institute (2009). He participated in the Mexican-American Solidarity Foundation as a Fellow in 2002, traveled to Vietnam in 1997 as a delegate with the American Council for Young Political Leaders, was a delegate in 2004 with Project Interchange in Israel, and participated with the American Israeli Educaiton Foundation visit to Israel in 2015. He was also selected as a Fellow by the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust in 2012.
Currently, Galindo-Elvira is a member of the Raúl H. Castro Institute Advisory Board and the Arizona Jewish Historical Society board of directors. Awards and recognition include the Local Elected Official Distinguished Service Award in 2002, Phoenix Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” Up-and-Coming Leaders in 2006, ADL’s Al Brooks Community Leadership Award in 2008, MLK Living the Dream Award in 2010, Arizona Fundraising Professionals Outstanding Fundraising Executive in 2012, and the Golden Bear Award for Community Service from Phoenix College in 2014. Carlos is a graduate of Arizona State University.
