A Special Evening Honoring Bill Levine

Philanthropist Bill Levine has made the Valley home since 1960. In 1999, when the Jewish community determined it was best to move the existing Jewish Community Center to the northeast Valley, Levine secured and donated 30 acres at Scottsdale Road and Sweetwater Avenue with a vision to build a campus with space for community organizations, a school, meeting places that included a large social hall and the J community center. The facility was named the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus in honor of his first wife, who had passed away earlier that year. She and their children had been very active members for more than 40 years.

On Nov. 19, the Valley of the Sun JCC is hosting A Special Evening Honoring Levine at the Arizona Biltmore.

“We are honored to acknowledge all that Bill Levine has done for The J and for our community,” says Stuart Wachs, J president and CEO. “To our knowledge, Bill has never been honored in such a way before, and because he is such a humble, gracious man, it is unlikely he will be honored this way again. He is a passionate and generous supporter of The J. He believes in what The J means to the community.”

The J is dedicated to enriching lives through physical, spiritual and social growth in a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages true connections. From its award-winning preschool, youth and camp programs, to its fitness and aquatics centers and senior programs, The J has something for all ages and interests.

“I grew up at The J – participated in virtually every program and ultimately worked there as camp director. I met my wife, my business partners and some of my best friends there,” says Jonathan Hoffer, J board chair and co-chair of the event along with his wife, Rachel. “Bill understands what The J means to community, both Jewish and non-Jewish, and to the generations who will come after us. The J is just one of his many legacies, and it is a privilege to honor him for his commitment to The J and for his work in the Valley and around the world.”

The special evening features actor and comedian Jason Alexander.
