Bookmarked: What are you Reading

Authors coming to the 40th Annual Authors Luncheon recommend a recent read

Allan Huber “Bud” Selig, Commissioner Emeritus of Baseball and author of “For the Good of the Game: The Inside Story of the Surprising and Dramatic Transformation of Major League Baseball”

RECOMMENDS: “Leadership: In Turbulent Times” by Doris Kearns Goodwin

HIS TAKE

“I recently read Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book, in which she describes and explains the leadership qualities of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Lyndon Baines Johnson, all of whom she has studied and written about in great depth. I am a voracious reader of history and a great fan of Ms. Goodwin. I’ve read all of her books and am also especially fond of ‘Wait Till Next Year,’ her wonderful memoir about growing up as a great fan of baseball.

Brooke Giannetti, interior designer and co-author of “Patina Living” with her husband, the architect Steve Giannetti

RECOMMENDS: “Strength in Stillness: The Power of Transcendental Meditation” by Bob Roth

HER TAKE

In my lifelong journey to create calm in my life, I recently started practicing Transcendental Meditation. Mr. Roth’s book is an excellent introduction to this easy, simple, elegant form of meditation.”

Chris Pavone, author of “The Paris Diversion”

RECOMMENDS: “Fleishman Is in Trouble” by Taffy Brodesser-Akner

HIS TAKE

“This terrific novel about marriage is both expected and unexpected, both poignant and hilarious. I haven’t laughed as much from a book in a long time, but it’s so much more than funny, with a startling paradigm shift midway through that shines a fresh light on everything we thought we knew, which I think is one of the fundamental goals of fiction.”

Kindra Hall, author of “Stories That Stick”

RECOMMENDS: “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill

HER TAKE

“After just finishing Elin Hilderbrand’s “The Perfect Couple,” I have switched gears to an old classic, “Think and Grow Rich.” I’ve read this book several times throughout my life and I find it helps me dream and do bigger.”
