58th Annual Heart Ball Committee Gathers for Mid-Year Meeting

Committee members and guests at the mid-year Heart Ball meeting knew they had arrived as they were greeted by a giant inflatable flamingo. The tall pink bird matched the hand-delivered plastic flamingo that served as the invitation for the April 28 brunch at the Halle Heart Children’s Museum in Tempe.

Following tours of the museum and an opportunity to mingle, attendees were ushered into a tropical paradise for brunch. The room – designed by Char Hubble, chair of the 58^th annual Heart Ball – included colorful tables topped with towering flowers and flamingos. Even the straws in the water glasses followed the theme. Chef Neff of the Lincoln Restaurant at the Camelback Inn prepared the menu of artisan breads and pastries, salad with poached shrimp and key lime curd on coconut lime cake with strawberry coulis and strawberry mousse.

Guest speakers included renowned cardiologist at The University of Arizona (Phoenix) Dr. Martha Gulati and Dr. Taylor Harman. Gulati spoke about women’s heart health and the importance of cardiology research that focuses on women. Harman, author of The People Code, shared insights into the four personality types he identifies as Red, Blue, White and Yellow, and committee members each left with a copy of the book.

Hubble presented the 2017 American Heart Association Mission Impact Award in the Excellence in Corporate Partnership Category for the Western States Affiliate to Joe Schoen and U-Haul. Schoen and his wife, Sylvia, are honorary chairs for the Nov. 18 event.
