Pet Therapy Program Seeks Volunteers Amidst Expansion

Gabriel’s Angels, Arizona’s only nonprofit pet therapy program for at-risk children, is expanding its volunteer base to serve additional youth. The organization currently serves more than 15,000 children, helping them to develop social behaviors through positive interaction with therapy animals.
The organization is now recruiting volunteers both with and without registered pet therapy dogs for two of its programs — the animal assisted activities program which works with 8-10 kids at a partner agency or Title 1 school and the Animals, Books and Children (ABC) program which allows children to read to dogs in order to build their confidence and motivation.
Volunteers will be supported with personal training, in-field assistance and learning materials. Volunteers can either become part of a registered Therapy Team with their therapy dog or serve as a Helping Hand, assisting with a Therapy Team.
