Maricopa Health Foundation Presents $5K Check to Jason Schechterle and The 100 Club of Arizona
In honor of Maricopa Health Foundation’s Legacy Circle Night of Heroes held on April 27, a $5,000 check was presented to the 100 Club of Arizona to establish a scholarship fund in honor of retired Phoenix Police Officer Jason Schechterle.
The check was presented at the 100 Club of Arizona headquarters Tuesday, May 30.
In 2001, only 14 months into his dream career, Schechterle’s life took an unexpected tragic turn. He survived a horrific accident when a taxi, traveling at over 100 mph, smashed into his patrol car. Upon impact, Schechterle’s car burst into flames, trapping him inside. He suffered severe burns to over 40 percent of his body. It drastically altered his appearance. He has undergone more than 50 surgeries just to have the ability to accomplish simple daily tasks.
Nearly 300 guests witnessed the heroic and inspiring stories of Schechterle, the physicians from the Arizona Burn Center at Maricopa Medical Center who treated him, and the Arizona attorney who led the legal fight to help save other first responders nationwide. The paths of Schechterle, Dr. Daniel Caruso, Dr. Kevin Foster, and attorney Pat McGroder will forever be entwined as a result.
