Cartoons Aren’t Just for Kids at the AZ Science Center

The Arizona Science Center is hosting another adults only themed event on Friday, June 16 – with this month’s theme being “This Animation is Not For Kids,” taking place in conjunction with the opening of a new, interactive exhibit, “Get Animated!”
The event will offer specialty cartoon themed cocktails inspired by characters such as Roadrunner and SpongeBob as well as a DJ, dancing and entertainment. Activities for the evening will include a special talk from the University of Advancing Technology (UAT), Pink Floyd laser shows, virtual reality experiences and a watermelon explosion.
The exhibit will allow attendees to experience every step in the animation process and show the evolution from traditional hand-drawn animation to stop-motion and CGI. It will also allow visitors to create their own 3D and 2D movies by developing storyboards, designing on-screen art and more.
Get Animated! gives guests a unique “backstage” look into the science, technology and art of animation.  Visitors will step into the shoes of an animator and understand the creative process, taking an idea from their imagination or real world experiences to create sketches and drawings using technology. Guests will have a chance to see if they have what it takes to be an animator,” says Chevy Humphrey, the Hazel A. Hare President and CEO of Arizona Science Center.
The exhibit will also provide photo ops with Spongebob Bikini Bottom, Simpson’s Living Room, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride Car, the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine and “That’s All Folks”, recreating the iconic close to Warner Brothers cartoons.
