Meeting the Demands of Autism
Everyone remembers the first day a child is impacted by autism.
The Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) is hosting its 15th Annual Community Breakfast May 2, 2013 at the Arizona Biltmore. The theme is “A Lifetime of Firsts,” and represents a time of reflection for the many firsts for a child, adult and family impacted by autism.
“From the first time a mom suspected something was wrong to the first time a dad heard his son speak, we recognize the many challenges, achievements and aspirations of those who benefit from SARRC’s research, services and programs,” said Daniel Openden, Ph.D, SARRC vice president and clinical services director.
SARRC continues to expand its direct services, training and educations program, and research as it strives to keep pace with the ever-increasing demand of those impacted by the disorder. In Arizona, one in 64 children have an autism spectrum disorder.
This year’s event is being chaired by George M. Hostal, Jr, CPA, SARRC vice chairman and senior vice president of First Western Trust-Arizona, and Nicole M. Goodwin, SARRC Board Development Committee member, parent of a nine-year old son with autism and Greenberg Traurig shareholder.
The breakfast attracts nearly 1,800 community and business leaders, sponsors, parents, volunteers and public officials each year and has grown to be the largest charity breakfast hosted by the Arizona Biltmore.
