Care Card Raises Money for UMOM

Many Valley shoppers added UMOM to their holiday lists as they utilized the Board of Visitors Care Card. Participants bought a Care Card for $50. When they used the card during Oct. 19 through Oct. 28, they received a 20 percent discount from the more-than 550 participating retailers.

The 13th annual Care Card Program raised a record-breaking $285,000. The funds will be presented in a check to this year’s Card Card recipient, UMOM New Day Centers, the largest homeless shelter for families in Arizona.

The sale of the cards increased by 19 percent over past years. The program has raised more than $1.5 million for Valley nonprofit organizations. Susan Westra chaired this year’s campaign.
