We Are Family
The March 17 disco-themed party to benefit Crisis Nursery was designed for high-energy fun and little podium time. "We Are Family" was a 1979 dance hit by Sister Sledge. The gala affair at the Biltmore featured a silent auction with a wine toss, dinner and a live auction.
Then it was on to the dance floor for the guests, including one very special guest – “John Travolta.” The band New Sensations with lead singer Jared Yates, an American Idol season 4 finalist, kept the action lively for the 320 guests.
The disco theme harkened back to 1977, the year Crisis Nursery opened its doors and arms to children in crisis. Attendees got into the spirit of the evening with platform shoes, go-go boots, wild prints and lots of polyester.
Presenting sponsor Van Chevrolet donated a 2012 Chevy Camaro for the live auction. The winning bid was made by Angie and Robert Alexander. Other live-auction items were a private Deer Valley ski lodge for 10 guests during the Sundance Film Festival and a Hong Kong adventure.
The evening netted $320,000 for the shelter, the FACES program and the Healthy Families Program. Nita and Phil Francis were the honorary chairs, and Patty Sapp and Heidi Ferraro co-chaired the event.
