Top 5 Phoenix Hot Dog Havens

Few American foods are more summertime appropriate than the classic hot dog. With National Hot Dog Day (yes, that’s a thing) approaching on July 19, we felt like we had to share our top picks.

Chase Field
If you really want to outdo yourself on patriotism, get yourself a dog at the ballpark. Fortunately, their options are as delicious as they are over the top. Our favorites include the brand-new Chicken Enchilada Dog, a chicken enchilada sausage with queso, salsa, cream and tortilla strips, and the dessert Churro Dog, a churro topped with frozen yogurt.
Short Leash
Short Leash Hotdogs is a Phoenix favorite which began as a food truck phenomenon back in 2010 and now has two locations. While many don’t consider hot dogs a gourmet food, Short Leash could change anyone’s mind with the Millie, a hot dog with sautéed onions, blue cheese, and bacon on naan, or the Mac Daddy topped with mac and cheese and veggie chilli.
Portillo’s
If you’re from Chicago, you’re probably already obsessed with Portillo’s. If you’re not, they still let you eat there. Not only are their hot dogs beyond impressive, they’re also giving out their famed Chicago-style hot dog for just a buck on National Hot Dog Day.
Nogales Hot Dogs
The Sonoran Hot Dog is a hot dog mainstay, especially here in Arizona, and there are few places that serve up a better option than Nogales Hot Dogs. Its version is topped with everything you could want — like beans, guacamole, and plenty of shredded cheese.
Simon’s Hot Dogs
While some of the fun of eating a hot dog is not actually knowing what kind of meat you’re consuming, if you’re not feeling as adventurous you can take your pick at Simon’s Hot Dogs, which offers two kinds of pork and beef dogs. Bonus: Vegetarians can get in on the fun with their tofurky and California vegan dogs.
