Girl Scouts Honors 23 Valley Volunteers
The Girl Scouts-Arizona Cactus-Pine Council has honored 23 volunteers with the National Girl Scouts High Achievement Award, a recognition bestowed to volunteers across the country who have distinguished themselves with their outstanding services in furthering the Girl Scouts’ mission.
Volunteers are truly the backbone of our organization,” said Tamara Woodbury, Girl Scouts-Arizona Cactus-Pine Council CEO. “They are the heartbeat and the heroes of Girl Scouting and play one of the most important roles in our girls’ lives — providing them a space for each girl to be herself.”
Honorees are nominated by their peers and selected by a nominating committee. Those recognized have usually served as troop leaders for several years, and volunteer at the council’s “neighborhood” level. The council is currently split into 48 neighborhoods, with each neighborhood providing support to the troops in their area.
This year’s honorees were recognized at the council’s newest facility, The Bob & Renee Parsons Leadership Center for Girls and Women at Camp South Mountain.
Adult volunteers were also presented with four additional awards: The Appreciation Pin, for those who have gone above and beyond in their role in one Girl Scout council neighborhood; The Honor Pin, to those who delivered outstanding service in two or more neighborhoods; The Thanks Badge, the highest to honor in Girl Scouts to recognize an adult Girl Scout and The Thanks Badge II, which is given to those who have already achieved The Thanks Badge, but continue to provide exemplary service.
