Frank Lloyd Wright 150th Birthday Gala

On Nov. 4 the Frank Lloyd Wright 150th Birthday Gala honored the great American architect and the principles he established 100 years ago. The majority of them are still as relevant today as when he first developed them.

The celebration brought together 250 Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation supporters at the desert camp and winter home of Wright, known as Taliesin West in Scottsdale. To mark the 150th anniversary of Wright, the event celebrated themes of advancing the way we build and live in our community through three primary pathways: preservation, innovation and education. The foundation’s vision is to inspire the world through beautiful spaces that are thoughtfully designed and experienced.

Urban Electra provided live entertainment and a gourmet dinner prepared by Charles Wiley, Mountain Shadows executive chef, was served to the guests. Stunning views of the Valley on what Wright described as “a look over the rim of the world” accompanied the festivities.

In between the reception and dinner, guests had time to explore three of Wright’s most personal spaces in Taliesin West: the Garden Room, the space in which Wright invited guests for formal evening on the weekends and used as his living room during the weekdays, and the Swan Cove, which includes Wright’s bedroom and Olgivanna Wright’s bedroom.
