‘Escape to the Cape’
Beach Ball, Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation’s annual fundraising party, took “Escape to the Cape” as its theme for 2017. The Feb. 25 event drew 890 guests to Hangar One at Scottsdale Airport to benefit the surgery department at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Funds will support critical program expansion efforts to meet the rising need for surgeries.
The evening posthumously honored Dr. Herbert “Tim” Louis, who passed away in October 2015. Louis began his orthopedic surgery practice in Phoenix in 1961 and helped found Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Jon Hulburd, his son-in-law and Phoenix Children’s Hospital board member, presented a video tribute that featured Dr. Louis’s son, Tim, and Dr. Greg White from Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Following the video, the audience participated in a toast to Dr. Louis, and Hulburd delivered a rose to his mother-in-law, Julie Louis.
A cocktail hour was followed by dinner, catered by M Catering, and a live auction that included a trip to the ESPYs via private jet, a meet-and-greet with Oscar-winner Emma Stone at the premiere of her next movie, Battle of the Sexes, and a BMW X1. DJ Lucy entertained during the after-party.
Susan Menchaca and Cristina St. Clair co-chaired the event.
