A Party With A Purpose
Ardie and Steve Evans hosted “A Party With A Purpose,” for more than 75 guests in their Paradise Valley home Feb. 16. The “purpose” was to share information about Act One, an Arizona-based nonprofit organization. Act One partners with Title 1 schools that do not have enough resources for educational arts field trips, coordinating with educators, schools and the arts organizations to manage and pay for reservations and arrange and pay for transportation.
In addition to enjoying a catered dinner and great conservation in the home’s beautiful backyard, after a welcome by Lois Savage, Act One board chair, attendees heard a presentation by Steven J. Tepper, dean of the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University. In an interview conducted by Linda “Mac” Perlich, CEO and publisher of ON Media Publications, Tepper shared his expertise in cultural participation and creativity in education and work.
On hand was Alexis Wilson, assistant superintendent of administrative services in the Balsz School District #31. Wilson shared her experience of taking students to an arts performance when she was a teacher in the district. The experience of riding a bus downtown for a live show was mesmerizing for the children. For herself, she noted, the field trip was “one-stop shop,” as Act One managed the entire process.
Act One’s mission is to provide meaningful arts experiences that enhance the academic and creative potential of children and families in Arizona. This year alone Act One will provide access to the arts for more than 530,000 people in Arizona through the Field Trip Program and Act One Culture Pass.
