Cocktail, Dinner Event at Hangar One Fêtes Arizona Costume Institute’s Major Donors
On Fri., April 1, before the April 2 opening of Defining Moments: 50 Years of Fashion at Phoenix Art Museum, major donors of Arizona Costume Institute were fêted with cocktails and dinner at Hangar One in Scottsdale. Among the guests were designers Bob Mackie, Ruben and Isabel Toledo, Zandra Rhodes, and Tatiana Sorokko. Also in attendance was Maria Giulia Maramotti, U.S. retail director for Max Mara, granddaughter of Max Mara founder Archille Maramotti. Max Mara was the presenting sponsor of the April 2 opening gala.
The dinner setting at the hangar featured leisurely browsing for both male and female guests. The men enjoyed an up-close look at collector cars while the women were treated to a display of the designer doll collection of Jacquie Dorrance.
A highlight of the evening was the announcement of a $2 million endowment to Phoenix Art Museum from Dorrance, longtime museum patron and member of the museum’s board of trustees. One of the largest gifts the museum has received in recent years, the endowment commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Arizona Costume Institute and the 16-year tenure of Dennita Sewell, curator of fashion design. It will provide a permanent funding source for the curator of fashion design position, which will be named the Jacquie Dorrance Curator of Fashion Design.
Dorrance and Brenda Howard co-chaired the evening.
