Teen Lifeline event raises a record $575K to fund crisis hotline, train teen volunteers and

provide classroom presentations.

Teen Lifeline held its fundraising dinner at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia on Oct. 9. Through their attendance and live and silent auctions, the 420 guests raised a record-breaking $575,000 to support the work of the organization, which addresses the issue of teen suicide in the Phoenix area. The funds will go toward funding the crisis hotline, training for teen volunteers to take crisis calls and providing classroom presentations to schools statewide.

Donald Tapia was honored with the Alfredo J. Molina Community Lifeline Award for his philanthropic endeavors in the community, specifically for his work with youth, veterans, first responders, the disadvantaged and animal welfare.

The theme of “hope” was woven throughout the inspirational presentations from the organization’s peer counselors, upbeat musical entertainment by Nate Nathan & the Mac Daddy-O’s and Lelea & 3Nathans, and the award presentation.

Mandy Purcell chaired the occasion, and ABC 15’s Katie Raml served as the evening’s emcee.
