Purpose’ on the eve

of Super Bowl XLIX

to help end hunger

Friendly NFL competition is raising money for food banks nationwide. The nonprofit organization Taste of the NFL has pitted fans from all 32 NFL markets against each other to help end hunger by donating to their favorite NFL team’s fundraising page online. Since 1992, the organization has rallied the country’s top chefs and the NFL’s greatest players to raise money in support food banks throughout the U.S.

Avnet employees get a little extra motivation from Arizona Cardinals’ Big Red as the

company becomes the first ‘Hunger Champion’ in the 2014 Taste of the NFL.

Phoenix-based Avnet, Inc., along with E&J Gallo Winery, American Family Insurance and Low T Centers, is one of the partners that have lent an effort to Kick Hunger. As a Taste of the NFL “Hunger Champion,” Avnet’s employees have raised money and collected food throughout the year for St. Mary’s Food Bank, donating 22,816 meals to feed Arizona’s hungry.

This season, the program launched Sept. 5, 2014, and will culminate on the eve of Super Bowl XLIX on Jan. 31, 2015, at WestWorld in Scottsdale. The Super Bowl will be held Feb. 1, 2015, at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. One hundred percent of donations will be distributed to the team’s local food bank partner. In Arizona, the Cardinals’ food-bank partner is St. Mary’s Food Bank.
