Singing for Food
Univision Local Media Arizona
and the seven Phoenix-area
stores of Los Altos Ranch Market
recently partnered to put on a
free Valley concert benefiting
Phoenix Rescue Mission, a
faith-based nonprofit organization
that provides life-transforming
solutions to persons facing
hunger and homelessness.
The musical event, which featured two Latin pop acts, El Dasa and La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, who were scheduled to headline a previous Univsision concert but were rained out, collected 2,150 canned goods for Phoenix Rescue Mission. While admission was free, guests were asked to donate at least one can of food at any of the seven Los Altos Ranch Market stores prior to the Nov. 5 concert held at Celebrity Theatre.
Arizona ranks as the fourth worst state in the nation for homelessness, with more than 13,000 homeless men, women and children in Maricopa County alone. During the holidays, Phoenix Rescue Mission expects to serve more than 100,000 meals to those struggling in the community. To help support the growing number of individuals and families experiencing hunger during the holidays, the Mission has launched its “Feeding Phoenix: More than a Meal” campaign aimed at collecting food, water, blankets, socks, sleeping bags, toys and monetary donations.
