SHC Honored for Stroke Care

 SCOTTSDALE OSBORN MEDICAL CENTER EARNS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center’s success in providing excellent, evidence-based stroke care and implementation of quality improvement measures for stroke patients has earned the hospital the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s 2014 Get With the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award.

The award was announced to coincide with American Stroke Month, an annual national campaign each May to increase awareness of stroke as a major health concern.

According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, strokeis the No. 4 cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the United States. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds; someone dies of a stroke every four minutes; and 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.

This is the fourth consecutive year Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medican Center has earned the award. Stroke care includes aggressive use of medications aimed at reducing death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients, according to the association.
