MIM Names Executive Director

 

April A. Salomon brings

leadership and institutional

knowledge to new role

as MIM executive director

 

The board of directors of the Musical Instrument Museum has named April A. Salomon executive director. In her new role, Salomon will provide leadership and guidance in all aspects of the museum’s operations, working closely with the board to articulate and advance the museum’s mission and vision.

Salomon, who served as MIM’s acting director for the past six months, joined the museum in 2007 and assisted with the design, staffing, collection acquisition and launch of the $250 million museum. In her most recent position, she was responsible for strategically planning changes to the museum’s permanent galleries and special exhibitions, as well as overseeing the delivery of MIM’s guest experience. Salomon simultaneously managed five departments covering guest service, public programs, exhibits, events and volunteer teams.

Previously, Salomon worked for other cultural and educational institutions, including the Heard Museum, Institute for Learning Innovation and the Smithsonian Institution. Prior to her work in the museum field, she gained experience in the private sector with Intel and Hewlett-Packard.

Salomon earned a bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of California, Davis, and  a master’s degree in museum studies from George Washington University.
