Society raises $700K for
blood cancer research
Cotton candy, inflated jumping castles, face painting, raffles, lanterns to light, and a gorgeous sunset and night sky brought out participants in The Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s 16th Annual Light the Night Walk. The Nov. 7 walk raised more than $700,000 to help blood cancer patients.
The funds will help provide life-saving cancer research, financial assistance to cover patient expenses for transportation, medication and testing, free educational materials and advocacy for better treatments and health-care reform.
“We are grateful to the individuals and companies who participated and lent their support in helping raise $700,000 to fund blood cancer patients,” said Jim Brewer, executive director. “The need is critical as an estimated 20,900 Arizonans are battling blood cancers and an additional 2,000 are newly diagnosed each year.”
Paul Horton and Nicole Crites from the CBS 5 Morning News team helped light lanterns for people fighting the fight and others who’ve lost the battle.
Gila River Casinos and United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 99 were the presenting sponsors.
