The Society of St. Vincent de Paul can better serve the needy population of Phoenix with much-needed hydration and sun protection, thanks to the generosity of Phoenix-based Celebrity Fight Night, which donated the brand new water truck this spring, plus funds for supplies and a driver.

Celebrity Fight Night founder Jimmy Walker has been a longtime supporter of St. Vincent de Paul, donating more than $307,000 and creating the “Never Give Up” program which offers words of encouragement and inspiration to homeless men and women.

Starting at 8 a.m. weekdays the water truck is stocked by St. Vincent de Paul volunteers with hundreds of water bottles, sunscreen, hats and snacks. It then spans the corners of the city, covering a different area of the Valley each day in search of individuals on the streets, in encampments and places people are staying outside. In a typical day, more than 150 people benefit from the water truck’s services.

The truck is valued at $55,000, but Zabilski estimates well more than $100,000 in supplies will be distributed throughout a year. Even more valuable, he says, is the impact Celebrity Fight Night’s donation will make in the community.
