Community Leader Award

Tempe Leadership will award its highest honor, the Outstanding Community Leader Award, to Shana Ellis at the Tempe Chamber of Commerce’s Breakfast for Chamber Champions event Feb. 28.

Ellis, a native of Tempe, was named in January as the president and CEO of The Centers for Habilitation in Tempe, a statewide nonprofit organization that has served people with disabilities since 1967. Ellis is also serving her second term on the Tempe city Council and is the current chair of the Metro Rail Board. Ellis has served as chair of many organizations in the past, including the Maricopa Association of Governments Continuum of Care Committee on Homelessness and the Tempe Human Relations Commission. She is a former president and longtime member oif the Kiwanis Club of Tempe and is a member of the Arizona Community Action Association Board and Tempe St. Luke’s Medical Centers Board. She is a graduate of Tempe Leadership Class XIII and is still a dedicated volunteer to the program.

The Outstanding Community Leader Award is an annual distinction awarded to Tempe Leadership graduates who have displayed outstanding leadership in the Tempe community. The annual Breakfast of Chamber Champions event will be held at the Embassy Suites Tempe on Feb. 28, 7:30 to 9 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at www.tempechamber.org or by calling (480) 967-7891.
